Steven Tyler has penned an open letter published in The Huffington Post in which he argues for copyright reform and urges politicians to get behind the fair pay of songwriters.

Tyler says that his recent request that Donald Trump stop playing Aerosmiths’ “Dream On” at rallies had nothing to do with his political beliefs, rather, he wanted to make a statement “about the rights of my fellow music creators,” adding, “but I've been singing this song for a while now.”

Tyler argues that new technology is great for artists, as long as they “are paid fairly by those who make money using our work.” He adds, “Everyone deserves to be able to pay their bills, support their families, and do the work they love. Too many can't because we are being shortchanged by new and old technology companies.”

And Tyler calls on fans to show their support as well. “We know you love our music,” he writes. “Now is the time to show us some love by supporting the effort to reform outdated copyright laws, do away with government standard for artist compensation, and make sure creators are paid fairly when other business use our work.”
