Suzanne Somers’ Palm Springs Retreat for Sale at $14.5 Million
The world has known and loved Suzanne Somers for more than 40 years.
Her acting career includes her 1973 breakthrough cameo as the blonde beauty in the Thunderbird in the movie “American Grafitti;” her ditzy character, Chrissy Snow, on TV show “Three’s Company,” from 1977 through 1981; and as Carol Lambert on TV show “Step by Step” from 1991 through 1998.
The 67-year-old Somers, and her TV host husband, Alan Hamel, who turned 78 years old on Sunday, have created an earthy and glamorous Palm Springs, Calif., estate. They just put it on the market with an asking price of $14.5 million.
Modeled after L’Oustau de Baumaniere in Provence, France, the Somers-Hamel compound is set on 73 acres into the side of a craggy mountainside above the valley in Mesa Canyon.
It has been home for Somers, who in addition to her television roles has been a Las Vegas singer and dancer, talk show host, Broadway performer and USO star for the United States military. She is almost as famous for her commercials promoting health and beauty products, having been named to the Direct Response Hall of Fame for her role as Thighmaster's pitch person. She has shared her self-help tips, beauty secrets and nutrition in more than 20 books she has published.
The Somers-Hamel estate includes five buildings to explore with 10,000 square feet of pavilions. One houses the master suite, another dining and living room, a two-room kitchen and wine cellar and a stone guesthouse designed in the 1920s by Albert Frey. There is also an outdoor amphitheater carved into the mountain that seats 50, has a dance floor, as well as a pool, spa, hiking trails and natural waterfall that spills musically down the hillside.
