Yep - I'm not making this up, and it's real. Residents in Middleborough have voted to make the foul-mouthed among them pay fines for swearing in public.

At a town meeting residents voted to approve a proposal from the police chief to impose a $20 fine on public profanity.  Wow, if that was the case around here, the treasury would fill up quickly!

They say the proposal was not intended to censor casual but  to crack down on loud,  language used by teens and other young people in the downtown area and public parks... Hmm, this seems a little silly to me.
