Michiganders know that winter in the Mitten state can get pretty bad. Turns out, it's even worse than winters in Alaska. See where Michigan ranks among all the states for 'most miserable winter'.
Friday night was pretty magical. We were watching the news and saw that there would be a chance to see the Northern Lights. Surely, we wouldn't be able to see them from our house because we live in town, and the light pollution would drown them out, right? Wrong! We were stunned to see them from our backyard.
For many of us, we have heard of this phenomenon called the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. Getting a chance to experience this natural light show is rare.
It's been awhile since we've had a chance at seeing the Northern Lights in the lower peninsula of Michigan, but for the next couple of nights there is a chance they may be visible this far south.
A coronal emission from the sun set off an Aurora Borealis light display seen over most of the northern tier of the United States -- including Michigan -- late last night into this morning.
I feel awful because I failed to get up early like I had planned to view the light show. Thankfully, many in West Michigan packed a camera and shared their beautiful photos on social media.
