On November 10th, 1975, The Edmund Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior. For most Michiganders, this was a pretty big deal. Not many boats sink anymore, certainly not on the Great Lakes, and not many have romanticized in song like the Fitzgerald.
The jangley guitar troubadour himself Gordon Lightfoot is coming back to West Michigan! Lightfoot will play Devos Hall on May 6th as part of his "Fifty Years On The Carefree Highway Tour" The tour kicks off in California this weekend, and hit Michigan in early May!
If you have spent anytime in Michigan, November 10, 1975 is a date you know. It was 37 years ago today that the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior. While the ship is far from the only to have sunk in Lake Superior (since 1816 that number is 240) it's easily the most famous. Not many shipwrecks have a chart topping song written about them as well.
