The Rapid’s New Silver Line Promises More Efficient Commute [Infographic/Video]

Monday marks the debut of The Rapid's new $39 million Silver Line, which is described as the area's first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).

The bottom line is this: You'll be able to get from 60th Street to Michigan Street NE and the Medical Mile in less than a half hour. That is 40 percent faster than you can get there using current bus routes with The Rapid.

And like everything else in Grand Rapids -- Beer City USA, there's a brew to celebrate the occasion!

Tournament Week Arrives for Inaugural Meijer LPGA Classic presented by Kraft [Video]

Tournament week has arrived for the inaugural Meijer LPGA Classic Presented by Kraft.

The 20th stop on the LPGA Tour, the Meijer LPGA Classic is being played Thursday through Aug. 10 at Blythefield Country Club. Walker-based Meijer's nudge for a community-focused LPGA tournament is that all proceeds benefit Meijer's Simply Give food pantry-supporting and hunger-fighting program.

Nine of the top 10 LPGA pros are in the 144-player field, including Stacy Lewis, the No. 1 female golfer in the world; U.S. Women’s Open champion Michelle Wie; rookie superstar Lydia Ko; and veterans such as Paula Creamer and Lexi Thompson.

Tickets for the Meijer Classic, which has a $1.5 million purse, are still available. Pre-tournament activities start Monday.

By Tricia Woolfenden | Local Spins

It was the “f— you” and implicit mic drop heard ’round the world.

Or, at least heard ’round Grand Rapids’ social media sphere (and likely far, far beyond) as reports of singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne’s expletive-laden on-stage meltdown flooded Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The famously mercurial artist abruptly stopped his set and stormed off stage Wednesday night when several members (seated in the front row, directly in the singer’s sightline) in the sold-out audience at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park wouldn’t stop yapping during the quiet of “Like Rock & Roll and Radio.”
