I touched on some of this today. It's a REALLY BIG sports weekend in West Michigan. Here's just a smattering of the teams and the action going on this weekend! High School football playoffs, College football Rivalry Games, College Hockey, Pro Hockey, College Volleyball...and well you get the picture.

I take quite a few pictures. Not "a teenage girl with 1,346 pics on Facebook" alot of pictures, but enough to where from time to time I need to clean them off my phone. Lucky you, you get to see what my life has consisted of the past few months.

That's Channel 13's headline for the story about the Calder Cup Rally that happened at Van Andel Arena earlier Wednesday night. I really couldn't top it. It just fits. The 50 year pro hockey championship drought spanning the Rockets to the Owls and now the Griffins ended last night in Upstate New York.

17 Seasons, 4 Years of not making the playoffs. Long nights at Van Andel Arena all came to end tonight. When Tomas Tatar (The Series MVP)tapped home an empty net goal with 48 seconds left, the Cup became there. 50 years of professional hockey finally ended with a team from Grand Rapids winning it all.

Yes Grand Rapids has gotten Griffins Fever! After struggling to get 5,000 fans for the first 2 rounds of the playoffs, The Van is the hottest ticket in town! Game 3 was 400 short of a sellout, and now Friday's game is SOLD OUT. WFGR gave away the last 4 tickets in the city yesterday, and we have a 4 pack of tickets to Saturday's game...if there is one!

Storybook ending! Luke Glendeing, the only Grand Rapids native to ever play for the Griffins, scores the game winning goal in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals against Toronto! Luke has stepped it up in the playoffs! Luke score just 8 goals in the regualr season in 51 games...in 11 playoff games, he has 5 goals. Way to go local boy!

A bench clearing brawl and a funny Jumbotron shot--celebrating the first weekend of the NHL season! Except the brawl wasn't in an NHL arena. It was in Rockford with the Griffins involved! The highest scoring game in 4 seasons and a penalty-filled bench clearing brawl gave the fans in attendance something else to cheer for besides goals and free t-shirts!

Cluck and 15 other sports, food and product mascots were at the Griffin annual "Mascot Night" Saturday night at Van Andel. The Griffs lost in overtime, but fun was had by all!

The Griffs and the Red Wings made it official today! The new head coach of the AHL team is West Michigan's own Jeff Blashill! The former Red Wings assistant and Western Michigan University coach is the new head man in the Griffins organization! The announcement broke on Twitter today, and was even a trending topic! Go Griffs!

Hottest day of the summer. 97 in the shade. Lets think about ice, cold, freezing hockey! Ahhhh that's better. The Griffins have a couple of announcements. For starters, the Griffins on Tuesday signed forward and East Grand Rapids native Luke Glendening to a contract. Glendening becomes the first player from Greater Grand Rapids to ever sign with the AHL team.
