Review: CCR Rocks Fred Meijer Gardens

I've never seen CCR - the original, as the band officially broke up in 1972, and well, that was that. Creedence Clearwater Revisted was formed in the 90's and hasn't looked back since.

They played the Meijer Gardens last night, and it was non stop 100 minutes of Great Music. They didn't miss a song that was a hit. They sounded great from beginning to end. Yes, they even included the 14 minute version of "I Heard it through the grapvine". They only song they didn't do that I could think of was Forgerty's "Someday Never Comes" - which is a bit slow. Otherwise, they played every hit CCR ever had that I can remember...

Our little own Meijer is about to go over 200 stores, and expand into it's 6th State. Wisconsin is next up. Hard to believe that the little store that started in Greenville now finds itself in 6 states and over 200 stores. This is important, because let's remember, Meijer is headquartered here, and the Meijer family has given so much back to this community over the years. We should feel proud of out "little Meijer" stores... And even better - The Purple Cow is coming back!

A "Worst Of" List Grand Rapids Stores HAPPY To Not Be On!

The annual list of "Worst Grocery Stores in the US" just came out, and with one exception, none of these retailers are even in Michigan, let alone Grand Rapids! Go us! According to The Fiscal Times, the list of forgettable food stores is based on "ratings from 24,203 responses, and the four categories – service (includes employee courtesy and checkout speed), perishables (food quality), price and cleanliness – were scored from “very satisfied,” “fairly satisfied,” “neutral, “fairly unsatisfied” and “very unsatisfied.” Yikes!

Meijer Purple Cow Dairy Milk Taste UPDATE!

Last week I told you about Meijer buying part of the Bareman Dairy and renaming it the "Purple Cow Dairy" and how it's going to be the new supplier of Meijer Brand milk. I said "Meijer’s milk currently is produced by Dean’s out of Evart. Now the Dean’s people will continue to produce milk for their own brand and others. I love Meijer milk for the taste. I hope the switch from Dean’s to their own milk won’t change the taste. If they can keep the taste and keep the cost down, it’s a win-win!"

Three of my earliest memories as a kid was A) the Nixon two dollar bill my Dad kept in his wallet. Freaked me out, even at a young age! B) Riding Sandy the penny pony at Meijer, and C) Getting an ice cream cone at the Purple Cow! Some newer Meijer stores don't have the iconic West Michigan Dairy treat anymore, but that will soon change! The Purple Cow is coming back!

This past week we lost 2 local legends, and someone you might not have heard of. As you probably know, Fred Meijer passed away over the weekend. He led the Meijer store chain into the national spotlight with grocery and department stores combined into a "Thrifty Acre" of savings.
Also Cindy Van Andel passed away over the weekend, wife of Steve Van Andel.

Fred Meijer, a pioneer of supercenter retailing and respected philanthropist, died Friday in Grand Rapids after suffering a stroke in his home in the early morning hours. He was 91.

The public is invited to pay tribute to Fred at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park this Tuesday, November 29th. The visitation service will held from 2-10 p.m. at the park, located at 1000 E. Beltline NE.
