Before Marvel's Thor finally hit theaters in 2011, there were multiple attempts from directors to make a movie based on the popular comic character. Way back in 1991, Sam Raimi (who had just directed Darkman) pitched both Stan Lee and Marvel his take on the Norse god, but the studio “didn’t get it” according to the director. Probably a good thing, because if they did, we might not have the Avengers movies.
