Crain's Detroit Business has published their annual list of the 100 Coolest Places to Work in Michigan. See who topped the list in Grand Rapids and across Michigan.

It's important to note that this is a Detroit-based publication. That could explain the lack of Grand Rapids and West Michigan-based companies on the list.

It could also have something to do with the fact that companies had to pay for an employee survey which accounted for 75 percent of the final ranking. It would seem likely Detroit-area businesses would be much more likely to participate in the survey, but still, it's worth a look.

West Michigan's Coolest

  • OST (Open Systems Technologies) was the top-rated company from Grand Rapids coming at number 15. The company's on-site fitness facility, darts, ping pong, shuffleboard and video games helped it reach that ranking.
  • Warner Norcross & Judd LLP in Grand Rapids ranked 19th overall. Free bagels, fruit and granola helped the law firm rank 19th.
  • Worksighted in Holland provides IT services. They ranked 91st thanks in part to daytime chair massages, ping pong tournaments and catering.
  • Legal Copy Services in Grand Rapids ranked 96th. Perks include being located on a lake, wearing jeans every day, foosball, bean bags and more.

Kalamazoo landed two businesses in the top five; Greenleaf Trust was third and TowerPinkster was fifth.
