The Evolution of the Word 'Dude'

DUDE!!!

Long before 'The Big Lebowski' and 'Fast TImes At Ridgemont High', there was just a word meant to insult the hipsters of Brooklyn. Yup, they were the first 'dudes' and their legacy lives on.

It all began in the 1880s when annoyed Brooklyn residents began dissing their fancy dressed neighbors, and eventually it's become America's favorite all-purpose word.

Yup, the original 'dudes' were hipsters who dressed goofy and thought they were better than everyone else, it journeyed out west, back to the East in the Jazz Age, and then into common parlance, thanks to Jeff Spicoli and the surfer dudes. Now it has many variations.

This reminds me of this stand up routine from Rob Schenider, recalling the mnay uses of the word.
