The Most Famous Red Swim Suit in History

The Smithsonian museum in Washington D.C. will soon display the most famous red swimsuit of all time — the one worn by Farrah Fawcett on that 1976 poster. Ya know, the poster that sold over 12 MILLION COPIES!Come on, admit it, you had that poster hanging in your bedroom!

Ryan O'Neal Introducing the Farah Fawcett Collection at the Smithsonian Museum

Bruce McBroom shot the photo on a whim.  Farrah posed in her own suit in front of an old, dusty blanket McBroom grabbed out of the back of his truck. She was 29 at the time, and preferred a one-piece to a bikini in order to cover up a childhood scar.

The museum will display the suit along with scripts from the first season of “Charlie’s Angels.”
