There It Sits — “HD-DVD” A Retrospective
Well, there it sits. It’s my last “must have, sucker born every minute” consumer electronics purchase the “HD DVD” player with “up-convert” for standard DVD’s. Now, don’t worry, it’s on it’s way to our daughters house so she can show her son dvd’s so it’s not going to waste.
But as I look back, so many times I have gotten burnt by this kind of crap. You know the stuff that hot for 6 months until the next best thing comes out? Just had to have the “up-convert” so all my dvd’s would look “stunningly beautiful” and “come to light like I have never seen before”. Ya, I fell for it too. Not to mention the pain in the ass of unhooking all the wiring behind the entertainment center, which is buried up against the wall only to have to lace it all back up again after getting the one cord cut free from the zip-ties. Not to mention the tipping of figurines on lower shelves while I try to remove it without taking everything off.
Congratulations to me, once again, hero of the stupid, for making sure the electronics industry survives by buying a $150 dvd player, that was no better than the one for $39 bucks. Now, maybe I will go watch a Blu-Ray.
