There is nothing like knowing you’ve got the weekend ahead of you when clocking out of work on Friday.

Most of us, though, don’t act past thinking about what to do. Since it’s summer and we feel freer, take the time to go outside the box and enjoy new experiences. Here's some you can do TONIGHT!!!

Here’s how you can spend “Funday Friday.”

  • Go to a movie outdoors. Movies in The Park has a whole summer of Friday night movies planned for Ah Nab Awen Park, and you can't beat the price: FREE!
  • Go for a float. With so many rivers in this area, you can put a tube in just about anywhere and float in the cool shade for a few hours. The Muskegon and the Rogue Rivers are well known for their floating scene, but other rivers in the area have floating and canoeing and kayaking opportunities and there's always events like BOOBS AND TUBES to introduce you to the sport.
  • Support local comedy. Dr. Grin's has some really good comics coming to perform this month, including Stewart Huff this weekend. Laugh and get your mind off of how crappy things have been on the news lately.
  • Write cards and letters to loved ones. This may be old school, but there is nothing like the feeling of opening a letter! Not to mention, this is your chance to leave nothing unsaid.
  • Volunteer. There are hundreds of organizations looking for good people to lend a hand. Pick one that is focused on your interests and sign up.
  • Head out to the Fulton Street Farmer's Market. Not only will you be helping local growers, but you’ll have fresh food for the dinner. Shopping fresh can be fun.
  • Check out a soccer game. The
Grand Rapids Football Club has a very competitive team that plays on Fridays (and other days) at Houseman Field in Midtown. The
Grand Army, as their fan base calls themselves, has a lot of pre-game activities planned.
