In Austin, Texas, a guy claims he’s making $250,000 jumping into dumpsters behind retail stores and reselling the stuff they’re throwing away. And it's not his full time job.

It’s important to note, here, this isn’t some bum. He’s no hobo. He’s actually employed, earning six figures at his day job -- and then another quarter-of-a-million scrounging around dumpsters at night.

Matt Malone started dumpster diving nine years ago as part of his job as a security analyst. He’d try to see if he could hack your systems by finding stuff in your dumpsters.

But while he was in those garbage bins, he found that stores were throwing away valuable electronics and other goods. Valuable goods. Goods that he could sell.

So now, he knows which stores throw out the best junk. He targets those stores and sells the stuff. Zero cost. Full profit.

While Matt is suddenly in the spotlight for his late night hobby, the truth is, if you scour sites like Reddit, and Craigslist, you'll find communities of people who have added "dumpster diving" to their resume with great success. The key is knowing where and when the good stuff is being let go.

Could you do it? For $250,000 per year, could you dive in those dumpsters at midnight and pull out that pirate’s booty?
