Muskegon County has proposed raising the legal age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21. Under the new law, a person would have to be old enough to buy a beer to go with their cigarettes and smokeless tobacco.

Ann Arbor made the change in August of 2014 and more Michigan cities may follow suit. The Knowsmoke Tobacco Reduction Coalition is behind the efforts to promote a smoke-free generation.

What do you think? Is the change a good one or should the smoking age stay at 18 in Michigan? Share your thoughts in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
