There used to be a stock car racing track in Grand Rapids on the Northwest side near where the White Pine Trail starts along US 131. Here's some old 8mm film footage of some racing from 1951.

The track was just south of Comstock Park where West River Drive intersects with North Park Avenue. The track was gone long before the expansion of 131, but in its heyday hosted races by a little fledgling organization called NASCAR (I think they kind of became famous at one point).

So enjoy this look back on GR's illustrious past as we go back to the day when NASCAR racing took place on the north side. Note the huge crowds and how much they're into it. Video from the Lloyd Moore Collection.
