Even though this winter hasn't been brutal - at least so far, I've compiled a list of the Top 5 Winter Activities you may want to consider in Grand Rapids and West Michigan!  So bundle up, and maybe take some of these ideas!

5)  Skiing, snowshoeing or hiking on the Kent Trails and White Pine Trail:

Let's not forget about how great our trail system is - even in the winter. These trails are FANTASTIC for skiing and snowshoeing, or even just going for a quiet winter hike. Be prepared to see lots of deer and winter creatures... and it's much quieter - no rollerblades or bikes to dodge and it's free!

4) Cannonsburg:

Let's not forget about our own little ski area here! Just 15 Minutes from downtown GR.  Skiing or sledding or even tubing. Prices start at $20 and it's a blast for the whole family!

3) Hockey:

We've got some great hockey - all winter long downtown GR. So if the roads are nasty, Van Andel Arena will keep you warm.  The Griffins are also good about running specials and other great family packages, plus remember they are the feeder team for the Red Wings!

2) Ice Festivals, Pond Hockey and more local winterfests!

Rockford, Saugatuck, Grand Haven, East Grand Rapids all have winter festivals of sorts, including a Pond Hockey tourney in EGR. M0st are very family friendly, and a lot of fun.  GRNOW.COM is a great website to keep up on the latest happenings in the surrounding communities.

1) Skating Downtown GR

The downtown skating at Rosa Parks Circle is fantastic. The Ice is well groomed, and it's fun and a very cool atmophere downtown.  It's only $1 to rent skates too, so bring the whole fam and skate for only $5!
