Grand Rapids' Veterans' Cemetery is going to be getting some much-needed spring cleaning Saturday morning when residents clean and restore the headstones.

Hands Across Time founder David Byers is teaming up with The Spirit of Grand Rapids to make this project happen. They are hoping to have local Boy Scouts as well as other local volunteers on hand to clean almost 3,000 headstones.

The event is from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the cemetery, 3000 Monroe Ave. NE. Coffee and donuts will be provided to volunteers in the morning. And an "All American" cookout will be held at 1:00 p.m. The cookout will include grilled hot dogs, potato chips, fruit and beverages. At the conclusion of the event, all extra food will be donated immediately to God's Kitchen.
