Have you always wanted to serve the community as a police officer? Now is your chance!

The GRPD is accepting applications for police recruits through September 7, 2018.

According to the City of Grand Rapids, recruits are sponsored to attend the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Police Academy, which starts April 29, 2019.

Candidates are paid as a police recruit with a starting annual pay of $45,369 and will get benefits from the city of GR while at the academy.

When a candidates successfully finish at the academy, they'll return to GRPD for more training and are then are sworn in as police officers.

In a statement, Police Chief David Rahinsky said,

“Retirements of current personnel continue to present an opportunity to hire new law enforcement representatives who will strengthen the department’s future. We are committed to hiring qualified professional candidates who share our passion for public service, integrity and honor. If you meet the minimum qualifications outlined in the job description and are interested in serving and protecting our community, we are interested in you.”

To apply as a recruite, you must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid Michigan driver’s license, have a high school diploma or GED, and pass civil service and fitness exams.
