The organization making a Wee Difference in our community for the month of September is myTeam Triumph.

The West Michigan branch of myTeam Triumph is a unique organization which enables those who are disabled to experience the thrills and excitement of being in the middle of a race. By putting someone else's triumph ahead of their own, they bring new life experience to those who may not have the opportunity.

Learn more what they do and how you may be able to join  or help out.

According to their web site, myTeam Triumph's mission is “to enhance the health and well being of individuals with disabilities by fostering lasting, authentic relationships through the teamwork environment of endurance athletics.”

By pairing up ANGELS (as the competitors call themselves) and CAPTAINS (as the disabled teammate is called), myTeam Triumph allows the relationship to flourish through training and having the CAPTAIN guide his ANGEL through one of their events successfully. It is the CAPTAIN who is registered for the race, and the CAPTAIN who will see their name posted in the results.

There are many ways you can participate in the myTeam Triumph program besides being a CAPTAIN or ANGEL, they are always in need of Volunteers to help at their various events and they also need Sponsors to help defray the costs of their racing.

For more information, contact one of myTeam Triumph's board members or sign up through their web site.

Upcoming events for the group include the Lake Michigan Credit Union Bridge Run later this month and the Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon in October.
