Hudsonville's Jordan Shimmell faces an eliminator fight Tuesday in Minnesota in his continued quest for the IBF Cruiserweight title.

Shimmell broke training camp in Grand Rapids on Friday and is in Minnesota for his fight Tuesday night against the hard hitting Russian Murat Gassiev. The fight will be at the Black Bear Casino in Carlton, MN.

The 12 round bout is the main event on the card and will be televised live on Fox Sports 1 as part of the Premier Boxing Champions series on Fox Sports' Toe to Toe Tuesdays boxing show. The winner of the bout will become the mandatory challenger for the IBF Cruiserweight world champion.

Victor Ramirez of Argentina is the current reigning Cruiserweight champion, while Gassiev is the 3rd ranked contender, and Shimmel is 12th.

Shimmell, whose work ethic in the gym is the stuff of local legend, says he's more prepared than he's ever been for a fight.

“I’ve now been through the pressure of a national TV fight, I’ve also fought at the venue in Minnesota before so I won’t have any excuses.  Nothing about this fight will be new or different, so as long as I prepare myself the way I know I can, there should be no surprises on fight night this time,” a focused Shimmell recently told Heavy Bag Boxing.

A four year pro, Jordan comes into the fight with a 20-1 record with 16 knockouts.  His opponent is 22-0 with 16 KO's.  Shimmel is the reigning USBA champion in the weight class.
