Who would take a perfectly good Klondike bar, dump hot chili over it and smother it in cheese? One of the contestants in the annual West Michigan Whitecaps food contest would, that's who!

The always interesting take on ballpark food is underway on the Whitecaps web site. Here's what could be on the menu this summer at Fifth Third Park.

As the snow piles up outside, it's time to start thinking of summer and lazy afternoons spent out at the old ball park.

The Klondike bar idea is called 'Alaskan Chili' and comes from former Alaska resident Esther Johnson, who told the club, "When I lived in Fairbanks, I learned to take my hot and my cold seriously and mix them together. This dish got me through plenty of cold winters.”

According to the team's Facebook page, other finalists include:

The High Five Burger: A 1/3-pound burger topped with onion rings, mozzarella sticks, French fries and Founders Dirty Bastard Ground Mustard.

Deep Fried Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Pie: Pretty much self explanatory, and it has to be delicious.

Franky Ears: Corn on the cob wrapped in bacon? My only question is how do you eat it?

Dutch Love: Is “Liefde” the Dutch word for love or a pita wrap filled with turkey pot roast, French fries, turkey gravy and cheese curds? If it’s not the second, then it should be.

Nut So Healthy Bar: Not one, but two granola bars, deep fired and then smothered in chocolate.

Shellfish Tendencies: Chicken and waffles is so 2014. Chicken and Lobster sald is what the all the cool kids are eating these days. Sure they are.

You can vote for these and other delictibles on the Whitecaps web site.

The Caps will be hard pressed to top league rival the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in terms of caloric intake. The Rattlers announced yesterday their new burger, the Meat Lovers Pizza Burger. It costs $22 and features four beef patties surrounded by a pepperoni and sausage DiGiorno pizza. If you were to not share, the whole thing would add over 4000 calories to your gut.
