As I was making my mac and cheese last night, I started thinking I could have had a frozen dinner. And before dinners were "frozen dinners" they were "TV Dinners" and were made by Swanson. People of a certain age will remember the tin foil trays holding turkey, mashed potatoes and corn for 98 cents.

The Swanson company was started back when Carl Swanson got off the boat in New York and someone sent him to the heartland. Omaha, Nebraska is where he landed and started a turkey processing plant. Fast forward to the early 1950's and the newfangled TV is making headway into the American household. The Swanson company took advantage of the fad and created frozen dinners designed to be eaten in front of the TV.

Here is a classic commercial from the 50's for the original TV dinners.
