We at WFGR mean it when we say we would like to make a difference in our community by taking the time to share with you some very worthy causes, that might not exactly be on the top of your mind in a world of great need, an over abundance of information coming from every direction and a careful eye given to where you would like to be a part a cause either with time or financially.

We'd like to introduce you to The Cleft Lip and Palate Foundation of Smiles founded right here in Grand Rapids.  Children born with craniofacial differences such as a cleft lip or palate often have visible scars, hearing and speech challenges which may draw the negative attention of peers.  Looking back, regretfully.....I was guilty of seeing a difference on a kids face when I was growing up and making fun.  Terms used were cruel....the difference between me and that kid was not too much, other than a small scar on the upper lip.  Shameful.

Thankfully, we have made both medical and social progress but children and adults still face similar challenges as parents and other advocates work tirelessly to bring awareness and acceptance of craniofacial differences. We have organizations like The Cleft Lip and Palate Foundation of Smiles to add support, knowledge and resources to parents and children born with craniofacial differences such as cleft lip and/or palate.

Rachel Mancuso founded The Cleft Lip and Palate Foundation of Smiles to make a difference.
