Couch potatoes rejoice! Science is saying being lazy is not a bad thing. Unless you're binge watching TV shows.

Scientists are giving the green light to being lazy. There are conditions, though. Being so laidback you are virtually sedentary could speed up your expiration date. But…when you are lazy in moderation, all is well. Here are some benefits for kicking back.

  • It lowers the blood pressure. No getting up, no stress. It is that simple.
  • It improves workouts. If you are lazy, you take shortcuts. So, quick, high intensity exercises are used and that gets you in shape faster.
  • Increases creativity. If you have more time to daydream, the ideas will flow.
  • Increases efficiency. Again, we want to get back to doing nothing quickly, so we find a better way to get things done.
  • Makes us appreciate the present. We can stop and smell the roses.

That being said, if you being lazy includes binge watching TV shows, be warned that THAT is NOT good for you.

Researchers say spending hours in front of the TV sharply raises the risk of dying from blood clots in the lungs. Japanese researchers followed the TV viewing habits of more than 86-thousand people, aged 49 to 70, for more than a dozen years.

The scientists found that every two additional hours of viewing per day raised the risk of a deadly clot in the lungs by 40%. Researchers say people who plan to binge watch should take the same precautions recommended on long-haul airline flights. They recommend taking a five-minute walk every hour.

The study is in this week's edition of the American Heart Association journal "Circulation."
