Yes, it's early to try to project who is going to meet who this bowl season, but that's never stopped anyone before.

ESPN has one projection that we can't help but notice.

ESPN's Kyle Bonagura projects Western Michigan University to go to the DXL Frisco Bowl in Frisco, Texas to meet former WMU head coach P.J. Fleck and the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

That's a long trip. Maybe try to tow the boat this time.

I reached out to Bonagura for further insight into his projection. He admits what we all know, that it's a guessing game, especially at this point of the season, and he would be "shocked" if it actually ends up working out that way.

Bonagura says, "Projections do a decent job of showing the general direction of an individual team, but there are still way too many variables to put any stock in the matchups."

Making it even more difficult, the DXL Frisco Bowl has an affiliation with the American Athletic Conference. The bowl is supposed to feature an AAC team against a Mid-American Conference team this season. WMU getting to the Frisco Bowl isn't too much of a stretch as a representative of the MAC, but for Minnesota to make it the AAC would have to come up short on the number teams qualified to fill its bowl allotment. That could happen, but it's just another thing that makes a Fleck/WMU reunion a little less likely.

See all of Bonagura's projections including Michigan to the Citrus Bowl against LSU and Michigan State to the Gator Bowl against Auburn.

Meanwhile, if you'd like to row a boat from Kalamazoo to Minneapolis this will help.
