A Montcalm County woman is a little light in the pocketbook today after being fined by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for taking four fawns from the woods and handing them out to her friends.

Reminder: leave the wild life alone. They are not your pets.

The woman, who remains unidentified, reportedly took the fawns after stumbling across them near her property. According to MLive.com, the DNR became concerned after the woman posted photos of the deer in her home on Facebook.

Sure, the little fawns are cute, but they grow up to be ten point bucks, which don't make the best of pets. Especially during rutting season.

"There are a lot of stupid people out there, but this one ... ," DNR Sgt. Ron Kimmerly said of the Montcalm County woman in an interview with MLive and The Grand Rapids Press on Tuesday, July 5. "She was told. She just wanted them as pets. ... But four of them, this was blatant."

The woman was fined 575 dollars for the violation and offered some vulgar suggestions to DNR officers in the process.

The fawns were taken into DNR custody, where one of them died, according to Kimmerly. Another fawn was released into the wild, where it's assumed it reunited with its mother.

If you have any doubts about how to handle any wild animals in your vicinity, this DNR guide explains it better than I could.
