A 93-year-old World War II veteran was reunited this week with his old girlfriend, whom he hadn't seen since the war.

Norwood Thomas of Virginia met Joyce Morris while he was stationed near London in 1944. The two immediately fell for each other and dated for a few months before Norwood was forced to leave for France for the Battle of Normandy. That was the last time they saw each other.

After the war, they corresponded briefly through letters and Norwood asked Joyce to move to the U.S. and marry him. But she declined because she was studying to be a nurse. After that, they lost touch. Each of them went on to get married and start families. Norwood is a widower and Joyce is divorced.

After 70 years, Joyce, now living in Australia, asked her son to help her find out if Norwood is still alive and to track him down. He did, and with the help of a local Virginia newspaper, was able to set up a reunion via Skype.

The two spoke for a couple of hours, reminiscing about their short time together during the war and about each other's lives since. Norwood told her, "I just wish I could give you a hug and tell you good night. But since I can't, I'll just say, 'You take care.'" The two made plans to speak again soon.
