Congrats to the WZZM Weatherball! The iconic metal and neon weather warner, that has been around on and off for over 40 years, is now being featured in a story in the Wall Street Journal!

The story, "In Des Moines, Turning Off Beacon Unleashes a Storm" talks about other cities in the US that have weather lights and statues. These structures end up being landmarks and trademarks of the communities they serve. The WZZM weatherball used to be downtown, until it was razed in 1987. The station rescued it from a junkyard in Kalamazoo, and the rest is history.

13 Weatherball red, warmer ahead.
13 Weatherball blue, cooler in view.
13 Weatherball green, no change foreseen.
Colors blinking bright, rain or snow in sight.
