Yvonne Craig, TV’s ‘Batgirl’, Loses Battle To Cancer [Video]

Yvonne Craig passed away yesterday at the age of 78 following a two year battle with breast cancer. Craig had many roles in her acting career, but none more memorable than her stint as Batgirl on the '60s campy series 'Batman'. 

Batgirl, who was Commissioner Gordon's daughter, Barbara, in disguise, first appeared on the show in its final season, adding some early girl power to the goofy series.

She recently talked about her role on the show.

Craig also had roles in the hit movie Gidget, the TV Series 'The Man from UNCLE', and 'The Wild Wild West' among others.

Here she is in an episode of the classic 'Star Trek' TV series from the late '60s.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Aldrich, her sister Meridel Carson and nephews Christopher and Todd Carson.

"She felt that she lived a wonderful life and was blessed in many ways," a family press statement said. Chemotherapy weakened her but this "didn't dampen her sense of humor or her spirit, she intended to fight and win this battle. In the end, her mind still wanted to fight but her body had given up."
