Restaurant Week GR continues through the weekend. We have a Greek Festival, a Block Party, Find Your Roots, Catch a Baseball Game, Go ORVing for Free, Enjoy some Comedy, Visit the Princesses at the Zoo, Catch some Jazz Music, and Swim with your Dog! You are going to have a busy weekend!

    Restaurant Week GR is your chance to Taste the City! Savor specially priced lunches, dinners or both at 70+ area restaurants. Each restaurant will create a special menu highlighting fresh, local ingredients for the event. Restaurant Week GR has provided over $150,000 to students through an endowed scholarship fund at the Grand Rapids Community College Secchia Institute for Culinary Education. Participating locations donate $1 for every Restaurant Week GR meal sold.

    Have you ever wanted to find your roots? Come to the Grand Rapids History and Special Collections Department for a free after-hours program just for genealogists. Learn how to use the library databases, newspaper microfilm and other resources, and take advantage of free copying and printing during the event. Bring your family history questions or problems — volunteers from the Western Michigan Genealogical Society will be on hand to assist. Network with other genealogists — you never know what you might find. Registration required.

    The West Michigan Whitecaps have home games all weekend! On Friday night it’s another FANomenal Friday and Bob the Builder Night! Bob the Builder will be making an appearance. On Saturday, Las Calaveras de West Michigan will make another appearance as part of the MiLB Copa de la Diversion initiative. The Whitecaps take on a new identity and celebrate the best of Hispanic/Latino culture and heritage with music, food, family, and fun! Sunday is Helen DeVos Children's Hospital Family Day. The first 1,000 kids eat free! Also get autographs and play catch on the field before the game and Kids Run the Bases after the game.

    A burgeoning international star now based in New York, Mike has offended nostrils in Montreal as a "New Face" of the 2013 Just For Laughs, and in Switzerland where he won the international competition at the 2013 The Montreux Comedy Fest. Mike returned to Montreux in 2014 as the "Godfather" of the competition, that year he also recorded his debut album, Two Slob Household for Stand-Up Records. It is still possible that it may be released one day. In 2015 he appeared on Season 9 of NBC's Last Comic Standing.

    Free ORV Weekend

    Michigan DNR designated routes and trails and scramble areas

    Residents and out-of-state visitors are invited to ride DNR-designated routes and trails. Riders will not not need to possess an ORV license or trail permit. Riders will have access to nearly 3,700 miles of off-road trails and the state’s five scramble areas (St. Helen’s Motorsport Area, Black Lake Scramble Area, Silver Lake State Park, Bull Gap and The Mounds). All other ORV rules and laws still apply, and the Recreation Passport is required where applicable (ie. scramble areas).

    Princess Day at the Zoo

    Come meet your favorite princesses at John Ball Zoo! All princesses, princes, and knights are welcome. Meet Snow White, Ice Queen, Snow Princess, Island Princess, Frog Princess, Mermaid Princess, Rapunzel, and Sleeping Beauty. Princess hair and makeup services as well as tiaras, wands, fans, and bracelets will be available for purchase. Please note that characters rotate throughout the day. There will also be a  Breakfast with the Princesses. They are offering you the opportunity to purchase tickets for an exclusive breakfast with the princesses! It’s a magical morning of food, fun, and adventure! Enjoy a breakfast buffet in the beautiful Bissell Tree House with a sweeping view of downtown Grand Rapids while interacting with beloved characters Princess Jasmine, Cinderella, and their Princes! Immerse yourself in a fairy tale world while they share stories of adventure and encourage you to make an adventure of your own. Space and tickets are limited and are first come first served.     It is the Free, family-friendly 8th GRandJazzFest presented by DTE Foundation on Saturday and Sunday at Rosa Parks Circle. Ten diverse live jazz bands over the 2 day festival. Freee face-painting by Fancy Faces, a Family Guitar Tent with a Free raffle each day to win a guitar (must be present to win). Walk, Bike, Bus or Drive (carpool) and be there!

    Wag 'n' Wade Dog Swim

    The Wag 'n' Wade dog swim is back for its third year! Grand Rapids is going to the dogs! They are closing the 2019 pool season with another pawsome event at Richmond Pool. The event is free and open to all community members but pre-registration is required. The event is split into four 45-minute sessions. Each session has room for 175 dogs. They want to make sure every dog has a chance to swim, please only register for one session. You have to bring: Paper proof of rabies vaccination (if you didn't upload them when registering), a leash for taking your dog in and out of the pool area, and a towel (optional).
