Over the weekend, fourteen people were issued citations by the Ludington Police Department for trespassing on the north breakwater at Stearns Park, WZZM-13 reports.

The north breakwater had been closed after the National Weather Service issued a beach hazard advisory, warning of high winds and 2-4 foot waves.

The fourteen people who went around the barricade and onto the north breakwater were all from out of town.

WZZM-13 reports the trespassers were: a 37-year-old West Bloomfield man, a 19-year-old Warren man, a 27-year-old Mount Pleasant man, an 18-year-old Alma man, a 46-year-old Bloomington, Indiana woman, a 42-year-old Bloomington, Indiana man, an 18-year-old Marne man, a 73-year-old Royal Oak woman, a 37-year-old Franklin, Tennessee man, a 17-year-old Bloomington, Indiana man, an 18-year-old Grand Rapids woman, a 19-year-old Coopersville woman, an 18-year-old Marne woman and an 18-year-old Coopersville man.

Within the past two weeks, three people have drowned in Lake Michigan in the Ludington area.

According to the Detroit Free Press, drowning deaths in Lake Michigan are up 58% in 2019.
