The peak of flu season is upon us and sadly it has already taken the lives of two Michigan children.

According to WOOD, a child in Shiawassee County and in Wayne County have been the first Michigan tragedies for the 2020 flu season.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human services say these are the first two cases of influenza associated children's deaths reported so far.

Across the country the flu has claimed the lives of 32 children.

The total of children last year the died due to complications regarding the the flu were four. There were 136 deaths across America that were also flu related.

Influenza B virus has been the culprit thus far causing widespread flu activity across the state over the past couple of weeks.

In order to protect your children, health officials are saying everyone 6 months of age or older should get the flu vaccine. Children, adults 65 or older and pregnant women and anyone who has an increased risk of contacting the flu get vaccinated.
