Congratulations are in order for 3 West Michigan High Schools! East Grand Rapids, Black River in Holland and Portage Northern all were named in Newsweek Magazine's "Top 500 Best High Schools in America"!

Schools were judged on six components: graduation rate (25 percent), college matriculation rate (25 percent), AP tests taken per graduate (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB/ scores (10 percent), and AP courses offered (5 percent).

East Grand Rapids was the highest in West Michigan at 162, Black River at 254 and Portage Northern was at 471. International Academy in Bloomfield Hills was Michigan's highest ranking school at 18.
