Tuesday night became a sad night in Grand Rapids when an 8-year-old girl was hit by a car and died.

According to WMMT, the accident happened after 9 p.m. at Bridge Street Northwest between Scribner Avenue and Monroe Avenue.

Grand Rapids Police indicated as the young girl attempted to cross the street, she was hit by a car that was heading eastbound on Bridge.

The car knocked the young girl unconscious. Police arriving on the scene tried to revive the girl laying in the road with CPR. Paramedics took over and brought the girl to the hospital.

Unfortunately, the injuries were to severe and she died later at the hospital.

Investigators from the Grand Rapids Police Department said alcohol and speed were not factors in the accident. No information on the driver has been released other than they are a Grand Rapids resident.
