I don't know about you, but breakfast cereal was the mainstay of my diet when I was growing up, and continued into I had kids of my own. In fact, I still eat a lot of cereal. It's just a Michigan thing to do, what with Kellogg's just down the road.

But the prestigious New York Times is reporting young adults don't eat cereal that much any more, and what's really sad is the reason why.

This article, about the decline of cereal eating in the United States is just sad. Sales have declined about 30 percent since 1990, most of which is because breakfast cereal is no longer in favor with younger adults, known as Millenials.

One could understand if they've moved on to healthier breakfast fare like fruit or steel cut oats, but no, that isn't the reason. The reason, according to the article, is that younger people don't like cleaning up after a big bowl of Cheerios.

Yup. They're lazy.

Almost 40 percent of the millennials surveyed by Mintel for its 2015 report said cereal was an inconvenient breakfast choice because they had to clean up after eating it.

What!? Just throw the the damn bowl in the sink and rinse it out! How long does that take? Thirty seconds?!

And if that's not bad enough, another industry is suffering at the hands of the leisurely Millenial class. Coffee.

In a Washington Post article, K cups are defeating efforts to launch a new wave of coffee enjoyment:

Coffee has suffered a similar fate. Despite talk of a third wave of coffee, which values quality above all else, and basks in artisanal rather than effortless methods of preparation, Americans still covet convenience above all else.

To be fair, much of the rise of the convenience class is also families who have two parents who work, cutting into dinner preparation and enjoyment. But I just don't understand why they can't just be like we were when we were in our twenties and just never wash the damn bowls.
