Film took on a new role at ArtPrize this year with its first annual film competition ArtPrize OnScreen: Presented by Waterfront Film Festival. 

The winners of ArtPrize OnScreen were announced Friday night. Learn more about the winners and view the trailers.

Awards were given in three categories from the public vote. The Narrative and Documentary winners each received a cash prize of $2,000. The Short Film winner received an award of $1,000.

A juried award for best overall film was also given out.

All four winners have the option of a theatrical run at Celebration! Cinema with a premiere party and hotel accommodations from Amway Hotel.

Narrative Film: Décor

  • A black and white film which is a psychological drama about an Egyptian production designer named Maha. The film takes a turn when she finds herself transported into a completely different persona – a married housewife. Directed by Ahmad Abdalla and starring Khaled Abol Naga and Maged El Kedwany.

Documentary Film: Exported From Michigan

  • A story of resilience and innovation that explores the new economies of Michigan, from local art and music to big business engineering and manufacturing. Produced by Jon Vander Pol.

Short Film: Dissonance

  • Directed by Bryan Fox.

Best Film: T-Rex

  • 17-year old Claressa “T-Rex” Shields from Flint, Michigan dreams of being the first woman in history to win the gold medal in Olympic boxing. To succeed, she will need to stand her ground in and outside the ring. Produced and directed by Zackary Canepari and Drea Cooper.
