Compare John Williams’ Original Score for One Key ‘Force Awakens’ Moment to the Movie Version
The best part of The Force Awakens, if I had to pick just one, is probably the fakeout when Kylo Ren is chasing Rey and Finn through the snowy forest, and the lightsaber he reaches for zooms past his face and into Rey’s outstretched hand. I went to see that movie three times in theaters, and every time that moment happened, people cheered. It’s made even cooler by the addition of John Williams’ “Force Theme,” also known as “Binary Sunset” from the original Star Wars. It was adopted somewhat as Luke’s personal theme, but generally signals the Light Side of the Force.
Damon Lindelof Might Know Something We Don’t About Where the ‘Alien’ Franchise Is Heading
Way back when Ridley Scott was just starting to work on his Alien prequel Prometheus, he hired Damon Lindelof to refine the script Scott had worked on with Jonathan Spaihts. Lindelof’s job was to focus more on the Engineer aspects of the film and less on the Alien bits, creating what turned out to be a totally bizarre, inventive take on the foundation of Scott’s Alien universe. Because he was so steeped in the Engineer lore, Lindelof might have some idea of where the franchise plans to go after the events of Alien: Covenant.

Tom Cruise Just Confirmed ‘Top Gun 2’ Is Happening, May Start Production This Year
Some days it seems like a new sequel rumor hits the Internet every day. Whispers of Top Gun 2 have been floating around the stratosphere for a few years, with the movie even getting a screenwriter at one point, Val Kilmer vowing to return, and even a mysterious meeting with Jerry Bruckheimer. Sometimes, because of timing or lack of resources or myriad other reasons, sequels just don’t end up happening even if they’re hyped. But today brings good news for Top Gun 2 hopefuls: it’s definitely happening, and Tom Cruise himself says it’ll start filming within the next twelve months.
Is the Han Solo Movie Taking Us Back to Tatooine?
For Star Wars, a series that has become a franchise built largely upon nostalgia, returning to some of their greatest hits within their movies has become par for the course. Sure, we were introduced to something like seven completely new planets during Rogue One, but that movie still checked all the boxes: cool female protagonist, Jedi lore, Dark Side, Death Star. The Han Solo movie is also going to bring us to some completely new territory, but would it be a Star Wars movie without a visit to a certain desert planet?

‘Aquaman’ Screenwriter Returning to the Deeps for ‘The Creature From the Black Lagoon’
The Universal monster cinematic universe (UMCU) is about to launch with Tom Cruise’s The Mummy this summer, and the studio is already planning their next installment. Seemingly because he took to Aquaman like a fish to water, screenwriter Will Beall is diving into The Creature from the Black Lagoon next.

For more than three months, The Fate of the Furious held the top spot of the movie trailer X-Games, accruing 139 million views in 24 hours, promptly dethroning Beauty and the Beast. But now a new player has entered the game, and he comes bearing a red balloon and a mouthful of shiny, sharp teeth. Beep beep, Vinnie.

What, You Thought Meryl Streep Wasn’t Going to Be an Oscar Presenter?
Meryl Streep is getting another opportunity to spit some political fire all over the Dolby Theatre on Sunday. Today the Academy revealed that yes, of course Streep would be among the presenters at this year’s ceremony, probably hoping for another rousing speech from the actress who’s made it known that she won’t take any nonsense from anyone, not even from the highest office in the land.
Former President Barack Obama Watched Everything from ‘La La Land’ to ‘Monster Trucks’ in the White House
It’s no secret that Barack Obama is a total cinephile — last year he and Michelle named their favorite films of 2015 (The Martian and Inside Out, respectively), and a few months ago he even listed his favorite sci-fi movies (mostly the agreed-upon classics). Being the President comes with its fair share of perks, including first access to any new releases he wants to watch. Now we know what was on the list he requested for his swanky White House screening room.
