Have you ever wanted to try kayaking but need a little help to get started? The city of Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department is offering free kayaking demos this weekend at Riverside Park.

Lagoon Days at Riverside Park will be holding its second event this Saturday, July 3rd from 1-4pm. The event is part of the city's Thrive Outside Communities group that helps bring equitable access to outdoor spaces to youth in the city of Grand Rapids.

There is no pre-registration required for the event, you can simply drop in this Saturday to Riverside Park as volunteers will be running ongoing 30-minute demos throughout the event.

The event will take place at the Guild Street/Boat Launch #2 entrance at Riverside Park on the east side of the Lagoon.

Join us at Riverside Park (Guild Street entrance) for FREE kayak demos on the lagoon! No registration necessary, just drop in.

This event is perfect for beginners looking for calm water to try kayaking. Our lifeguard certified staff will be on site with kayaks, paddles, flotation devices, and tips on using the kayaks.

We have single and double passenger kayaks available.

While everyone is welcome, there are age requirements for the event:

  • Kayakers must be 18+ to kayak alone
  • Children ages 12-17 can kayak in their own kayak or in a tandem kayak with an adult present
  • Children ages 7-11 must be in a tandem kayak with an adult
