As all Detroit Red Wings fans know, back-up goal tending was a vital issue last season.  So much of a problem, the Wings couldn't get past the second round of the western conference finals.  Can we expect to see a familiar face behind former Grand Rapids Griffin, now Red Wing Jimmy Howard?

Conklin, who is available after spending the past two seasons with the St. Louis Blues, would play behind starter Jimmy Howard.  General Manager Ken Holland isn't expected to make a decision until talking with current backup goalie Chris Osgood.  The Wings have already re-signed Jonathan Ericcson, Patrick Eaves and Lansing native Drew Miller.  Dearborn native & veteran defenseman Brian Rafalski retired after last season, leaving the decision to sign two new blue-liners Garnet Exelby and Ian White.  The now seven time Norris Trophy winning Captain Nick Lidstrom is back for what he says is, "his last season", but the Wings are trying to shop-out Juri Hudler.  It appears all the Wings' star forwards are in next season's line up.

So, the question is... Retire the aging and unpredictable but record setting Chris Osgood who spent most of last season on the injury list, ultimately resulting in surgery?  Is the move to sign Ty Conklin a good decision by the head office?  If you are a true, die hard hockey fan like myself, you'll put in your thoughts below.  Lets hear it!  On facebook, Twitter or email me at Dano@WFGR.com
