More options are now available in the Grand Rapids area for people interested in getting tested for COVID-19.

Last month, CVS Pharmacy opened its first drive-thru testing site in the area and have now added a couple more, FOX 17 reports. The three locations are:

  • 5603 Byron Center Ave SW, Wyoming
  • 727 28th St SE, Grand Rapids
  • 1550 Lake Drive SE, Grand Rapids

The new sites in Grand Rapids are two of six new testing locations in Michigan.

COVID-19 testing is free and you don't need insurance, but you must schedule an appointment ahead of time. Testing is done via drive-thru by a self swab in your nostril. Results are usually back in 2-4 days. More info and to schedule an appointment can be found here.

Since launching their first testing site in mid-March, CVS has now conducted over 500,000 tests in 33 states and D.C.

On a positive note, Michigan is "on track" to contain the coronavirus compared to most states. However, Governor Whitmer announced the other day that the state would not be moving to 'Phase 5' of the reopening plan before the holiday weekend as hoped because there's enough supporting data of a resurgence if restrictions are lifted too early. Phase 5 would allow movie theaters and gyms to reopen; in addition to allowing indoor events of up to 50 people and 250 for outdoor ones.
