They join other districts across West Michigan that will be taking extra time off to allow distancing, enhanced cleaning practices, and provide students and staff with time to concentrate on their mental wellness.

GRPS announced that they will be closed on Friday, December 3rd and Friday, December 10th for the Covid Wellness Days.

In a social media statement, GRPS explained that the last 18 months have been particularly challenging for students:

The last year and a half has been an exceptionally challenging time, particularly for students, families, teachers, school leaders, and support staff who have been navigating through these uncertain and ever-changing times. This school year has been particularly trying as we are facing a historic teacher and support staff shortage crisis coupled with the continued global pandemic. This has all taken its toll on the social, emotional, health, and mental wellness of our students and staff.

Wyoming Public Schools will also be taking days off for wellness, announcing that they will be closing the entire week of Thanksgiving in a message from Craig Hoekstra, Superintendent:

In thinking about how to provide encouragement and a way to put my words into action, we have decided to close the entire week of Thanksgiving, Monday, November 22, through Friday, November 26, 2021. This will give all WPS employees and scholars additional time to spend with family and friends and attend to intentional self-care.
