Granted it's not West Michigan, but it's still Michigan pride, Detroit Metro Airport has been named the number one mega airport in North America for traveler satisfaction according to MLive.

Since we gave up "Pure Michigan" maybe this could be our new motto, "Michigan, we satisfy." Still a work in progress, I think.

Anyway, MLive reports that Detroit Metro topped the list of 20 mega airports in the 2019 J.D. Power North American Airport Satisfaction Study. In comparison, Chicago's O'hare, the next closest mega airport to us, came in 18th.

The MLive story says the study looked at 6 factors that contribute to traveler satisfaction:

terminal facilities; airport accessibility; baggage claim; security check; check-in and baggage check; and food, beverage and retail.

Researchers then ask 32,000 travelers in both America and Canada (North America) who have traveled through either arrival or departure at least one of the mega airports. Each airport then gets a score from 0 -1,000 based on all the factors.

Detroit Metro scored 786 on the survey followed by Minneapolis-St. Paul with a 779, then Las Vegas and Orlando tied at third with 777. DFW and Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson tied for 5th with a 773 score.

The three worst mega airports for traveler satisfaction according to MLive are O'hare, LAX and the worst being Newark Liberty International.
