Detroit Tigers Can Seat 8,200 for Home Opener

On Thursday, April 1st, it will be the Detroit Tigers Opening Day game against the Cleveland Indians at Comerica Park. It was announced this morning that there can be 8,200 fans in the stands for that game!

With the updated epidemic order from the state Department of Health and Human Services that was released Friday morning, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer's administration will allow crowds of up to 20% of capacity limits at outdoor stadiums That number is up from the 1,000 fans under the old order that allowed less than 3% of Comerica Park's capacity.

Comerica Park can seat 41,083 fans, so 20% capacity would mean the Tigers could accommodate up to 8,217 fans.

There are other guidelines fans must follow as well...

• Those attending the games will be required to complete a Gameday Wellness survey within 24 hours prior to the game.
• Facemasks will be mandatory at all times except when eating or drinking. Neck gaiters, bandanas, and masks with halves are not permitted.
• All points of sale will required cashless payments.
• Fans will be seated in pods with at least six feet of physical distance between groups.
• All bags, purses, and clutches are now prohibited. Medical or diaper bags are the only exceptions.

Other safety and sanitizing protocols will also be in place in an effort to keep everyone healthy while enjoying a baseball game. Food and beverage items can be ordered in advance via cell phone for express pickup, and additional hand sanitation dispensers will be placed throughout the ballpark.

The only Major League Baseball team allowing full capacity as of Friday is the Texas Rangers. Most other teams are allowing just over 40%.
