If you are an avid angler, you may get surveyed on your catch when leaving Michigan lakes and rivers this year.

According to WOOD TV, as the fishing season kicks off, the state of Michigan biologists are asking fisherman to share information regarding their catches.

A variety of boat launches and piers around the state will have what the Department of Natural Resources call "Creel Clerks" set up to survey anglers catch in regards to how long you fished, what species were you after, along with the number and type of fish caught.

Some surveys will just be questions while others the clerks will ask to weight and measure the fish. In some cases the fish will be aged as well.

The data collected will help in managing the state's fish populations.

The DNR has a long-term monitoring effort in tracking recreational fisheries and the Statewide Angler Survey Program will help in continuing great harvests in Michigan waters.
