It's a fancy title for the one thing the Detroit Lions have been doing exceptionally well this season.

The Lions Special Teams Have Been Overlooked This Season

The Detroit Lions have been one of the oddest NFL teams this season, leading the league in both scoring points AND giving up points, but let us not forget the Lions special teams, which have been doing quite well.

In fact, the Lions have perhaps the best punter in the NFL, a guy by the name of Jack Fox. Fox not only buries the opposition with deep punts, he also kicks off for the team.

In addition to punting and kicking, the self proclaimed 'Field Position Optimization Specialist' has also passed for more yards all but one other punter in Detroit Lions history (44 yards), and has completed the second most passes ever by a punter in team history.

Which is understandable when you consider Fox was a star quarterback back at Watkins High School in Ladue, MO, where he threw for close to 2000 yards and 18 touchdowns. Fox punted and was also the place kicker at Rice University in Houston. He signed with the Lions in late 2019.

Here he is, hitting Quenton Cephus with a fake punt pass for a first down in last Sunday's loss to Seattle.

Such versatility has earned Fox the respect of perhaps the most famous former NFL punter, Pat McAfee, who called Fox the best punter in the NFL on his nationally syndicated podcast and talk show. Fabled New England coach Bill Belichick agreed.

In fact, McAfee suggested that maybe the Lions ought to show some appreciation for Fox by opening up their wallets a bit, posting this bit of hyperbole to Twitter.

Amazing Transition From Wrecked Basement To Detroit Lions Man-cave

Whether or not the Lions win or lose, there's no doubt the owner is gonna be enjoying Sunday football in style.
