Locals of Grand Rapids know, we like to paint the town. Now, there is even more vibrancy to the city. Local artist Kevin Wolfrom's new mural, titled "Dreamchaser"  is  complete. The mural is located at 800 Ottawa in Grand Rapids.

How did this mural come to be?

This specific effort was made possible through the Activate This Place grant program.

The purpose of this grant is to engage the community to be proactive in identifying positive ways to improve the health and well-being of the community, while also providing a platform to be creative with space.

Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. offers grant support for activating public spaces to culturally enhance the community by building environments at the local level. The program began in 2019.

Who is Kevin Wolfrom?

Kevin Forest Wolfrom is a painter working out of Grand Rapids. Graphite being his first love, Wolfrom eventually moved towards painting. Originally from Lansing, Wolfrom likes to indulge in a variety of medias, but has discovered a love with oil paints.

Having a great appreciation for the intricacy of the stars and what lies amongst them, a good portion of Wolfrom's work is inspired by the sky. Having a huge appreciation for science, a lot of aspects of astronomy are displayed throughout his work.

Wolfrom's inspiration also comes from his every day experiences, with the influence of music, along with many traditional artists. You can see more of his work on his Instagram page. He says of the mural,

"This project tested me.. tested every ounce of patience and calmness I have in my body and at times I honestly have never felt so discouraged. It started to feel like this project was going to be a flop.. but there was no way in hell I was going to let this project go unfinished."
