If you haven't renewed your driver's license, I.D. or vehicle registration, you have until September 30 when the Michigan Secretary of State's extension expires.

I was driving in to work today and was behind a vehicle that didn't have a license plate and I see a couple of these everyday. So I looked up when the extension the Secretary of State will end out of curiosity.

If you haven't done any of these things yet, make sure and get them done by the end of September.

According to MLive, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said, "as part of our ongoing efforts to address customer needs during the pandemic, we have expanded our branch hours and added a number of appointments to ensure everyone who needs to is able to renew their driver's license or ID ahead of the September 30 deadline. There are still many available appointments and anyone who has not handled their renewals is encouraged to do so immediately."

I sure hope I don't get double charged this year. I sent my paperwork, copies of insurance and payment for all three of my vehicles way in advance during the shutdown. I never received my tags so I went online and took care of it and got all of my tags in a couple weeks. Somewhere there is an uncashed check of mine floating around.

I did pick up a new boat this summer and need to get the registration switched over, and I found out you can make appointments between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday by calling 888.767.6424 or by making an appointment online on the Secretary of State's website.

You can only get these special appointments to renew your driver's license, state ID or vehicle's registration.
Unfortunately for me, registering that boat of mine can't be used for one of these special appointments. I am going to have to set up an advance or same day appointment either by phone or website.
You can still register your vehicle online and get the tags sent straight to your mailbox but IDs and drivers' licenses must be done in person.
My guess is the state is looking to recover a lot of lost revenue by having police not write a lot of tickets. Lately I have seen police actively pulling people over and that is the last thing you want to have happen if you haven't updated your tags, license or ID.
