Holy cow! or pig! This is something you'll likely remember the next time you're chowing down on a hot dog. Whether that may stop you from eating it is another thing.

The University of Michigan released a report on over 5,800 foods and how they affect our health and the environment. Hot dogs were found to be the worst of all. The most jaw-dropping revelation was that just one hot dog takes off 36 minutes of your life! 36! Have you ever eaten just one hot dog? I'm normally a 2-dog kinda gal so that means I just lost over an hour of my life. That's kinda trippy to think about.

On the other hand, nuts add 26 minutes to your life. Omega-3's like salmon and legumes also added minutes to a person's life. Not only that, eating these types of foods reduces the carbon footprint, which contributes to global warming, as opposed to processed foods like hot dogs.

The study found that substituting 10% of daily caloric intake from beef and processed meats for a mix of fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes and select seafood could reduce your dietary carbon footprint by one-third and allow people to gain 48 minutes of healthy life per day.

A professor on the study told USA Today that this isn't meant to scare people but rather show them how to make healthier choices for themselves and the environment.

When reading about the study, competitive eater and hot dog champion, Joey Chestnut, had a rather interesting theory about U of M researchers.

Joey beat his previous record this past 4th of July by consuming 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes. In case you're wondering that's 2,736 minutes or 1.9 days. Mind you, he's a 14-time champion.
